I'm not a Windows guy anymore...

Been a Windows guy for several years -- well, in fact since Windows 1.0, but I realized I'm not anymore. This is the tale of a former Windows guy. :-)

Previous thought

Sometimes you don't realize something until you have that "Eureka!" moment. Mine came today, when I was reviewing some code from the internet. It was those little things, for example line endings in CR+LF or the use of the Windows only "Segoe UI", or having to remember how to tell a Windows user how to use Git on Windows (ohh, those moments...).

I write this with a bit of melancholy, as I put it in the excerpt for this post, I used Windows and PC's for several years, even from Windows 1.0, which I saw it like a revelation from the DOS prompt. (They were several graphical user interfaces those days, mainly GEM on PC). Obviously, I've used Windows since then, mixing their daily use with some other GUI's. My only real departure from Windows was some years using OS/2. Oh, my! OS/2 was soo great, back in the days...

The Eureka moment I was telling about is that I suddenly realized I have not used or touched a Windows PC in months... perhaps even years. None. Zero. Nada. Zip. Nichts. Null...

What is even more important, all this without remorse, and with any wish to return...
